>tell me why you believe that President Woodruff, >and all of the other officers of the church, were >no longer in communion with the Lord.
Wilford Woodruff started a process of apostasy that continues to this day, here a little, there a little, a piece at a time, the church grew ever further away from the gospel of Christ that was restored to Joseph Smith. It was important to Wilford Woodruff to get political power and gain, by denying polygamy. The administration of Heber J. Grant accelerated the apostasy more than any of the earlier prophets. There are those among the fundamentalists who recognize that with the death of Joseph F. Smith, the keys of the presidency of the priesthood passed from the church, to the senior apostle, Lorin Wooley, who was called by John Taylor to keep the principle of polygamy alive. (Think Lorin wasn't ordained? Just try to get the church to release the journals that write about what happened on that eventful day just before John Taylor's death, when Jesus and Joseph Smith came to visit him. Conspiracies to keep things like this secret don't happen over trivial matters, and are not in line with gospel principles.)
When GBH took control of the churches public and media relations, the pace of apostasy increased once again, as he modified the doctrines of the church to portray us in a good light. He was instrumental in getting many of the basic doctrines of Mormonism converted to "Blips on History". He painted the picture that the early prophets were somehow speaking as men and not prophets, and he used this as an excuse to propose his own doctrine, mingled with scripture.
David O McKay was responsible for doing away with spiritual gifts in the church by forbidding dreams, revelations, visions, and ministration of angels, from being discussed in the meetings of the church.
For many years GBH has for all intents and purposes run the church because the prophets have been too ill to function. He has used his time well to promote the idea that the prophet, was incapable of doctrinal error. Because of that belief, the church is now in serious spiritual trouble, and has forgotten it's roots based on personal revelation to each individual.
So one by one, the doctrines of the church as taught by Joseph Smith have been dropped because they are not politically or socially pleasing, or because they cause bad public relations or media coverage for the church. Today, Mormons might as well be mainstream Christians, for all the distinctiveness that is left in LDS theology.
As for the current apostles not being in communion with the Lord, their own words condemn them. GBH says we don't need revelation today. BKP says that he has never saw Christ. Bruce R. McConkie admitted the same thing in his last few months of life. If this is not sufficient evidence for you, get on your knees, and ask God if the current leadership of the LDS church is teaching ideas that are damaging to your temporal and spiritual wellbeing. Through the power of the Holy Ghost you may know the truth of ALL things.
