Another Person Saying they are Christ

>>BTW, I've heard a rumor that Harmston
>>now claims to be Jesus too.

I don't know anything at all about whether Jim Harmston believes he is Christ or not, and it is really an irrelevant issue to me, because the Holy Spirit testifies to me that there is light and truth available in Jim's teachings, (more than I had previously found within other restoration movements). So I rejoice in the work my friends in Manti are doing, even if I am not (yet or ever) gathered with them.

Regardless of what Jim's thoughts are on the matter, it is not at all odd to me that holy people would believe that they are Christ. After all isn't the purpose of our mortal probation to become gods? Or to become joint-heirs with Christ of all that the Fathers have? Or to become Saviors on Mount Zion?

Many Mormon fundamentalists believe that Father, Adam, Christ, Eve, Holy Ghost, etc. are positions, callings, or roles that people take in creating and populating new worlds. If these positions are roles, which can be filled by any worthy priesthood holding god who happens to be hanging around, and if we ourselves may some day become gods, then why not fulfill the role here and now? Why don't we today, start living and acting as Christ would act? Are we only to take upon us the name of Christ? Or are we to act like Christ? And even become Christ? In the end, if we expect to sit down with Christ on the right hand of the Father, we must become as Christ is, by living like him until we become Christ. If we are not one with Christ, then we have no place with the Fathers.

The natural outgrowth of holiness is for a person to act more and more like Christ, until they become Christ, a Saviour to their friends and family. That is the natural course that holiness takes. It is a perfectly natural way to think and act, when a person reaches a certain level of holiness. It is too bad that the general population doesn't understand the meaning behind the expressions of the holy ones who dwell among us. We crucify them in our hearts, and scourge them with bitter words rather than listen for the light and truth within their message.

Who can rightly judge or ignore David Koresh, Heaven's Gate, and the scores of other prophets who have come among us claiming to be holy messengers, even divine gods? Do you judge them by their works? Have they not had a more dramatic effect on national and international thought than tens of thousands of missionaries? If a god were among us, would s/he act like the normal everyday citizen of Babylon? I don't think so! You could expect outrageous acts which would serve as a catalyst to change what the world thinks and talks about.

Have we read the messages of these odd-ball people who have claimed divinity? Who is more likely to provide us with increased light and knowledge? A man who speaks as a man? (inspired or otherwise)? Or a divine god trapped in the body of a man? It makes a world of difference on how a person writes! and upon how the written word is understood.

The thing that instantly drew me to Jim Harmston, is that he speaks as a prophet. He is not at all shy about speaking in the name of the Lord, or talking about spiritual matters, or prophesying about the future or the past. For myself, I would much rather cast my lot with such a man and be headed full blast in the wrong direction, than to be caught standing around twiddling my thumbs, wondering why god went to sleep about the time that my grandfather was born.

When a person reads a scripture as a man, and it says to be perfect a Christ is perfect, it seems a daunting task, but when a person reads the same scripture believing that they are a god, then perfection becomes possible.

It is considered blasphemy for a person to say they are Christ-(like), yet in the end, that is the design and purpose of our lives, to be as HE IS.

For it has been said....

Be still, and know that I AM god.

Jim's Teachings on the Matter

From: R E Maudsley, apostle
Date: June 11, 1998

James (Jim) D. Harmston has never proclaimed himself to be Jesus Christ in any way, shape or form. Nor does he think himself to be Christ, our Redeemer, never has Jim even suggested such a thing! It is a total lie being spread abroad in the land by those who hate God and His Servant of the Last Days.

It is true that we had some men amongst us who believe they have played the Christ role, and have no need of redemption; that they were sent into this mortality to save this work when James D. Harmston failed... they have all been cut off for obvious reasons... I personally begged them to reconsider and to repent, and showed them plainly where they were in error from the scriptures and all the prophets.

...and you may quote me.
