I remember the pain from when my own recommend was taken away because they said I was apostate for beleiving and teaching what my Mormon ancestors had always believed and taught.

As painful as it is right now, you are in a position, where there is much opportunity for growth and developement. Still kept your faith, but no longer dependent on the arm of flesh to run your life.

There are all sorts of ways people approach this issue.

• The LDS church as an organization is still the Lord's church, but at the death of Joseph F. Smith, the presidency of the priesthood passed from the church to the senior apostle,  Lorin J. Wooley  Example: Apostolic United Brethren
• LDS church lost the priesthood, which was restored by angels. Example:True and Living Church of Jesus Christ of Saints of the Last Days.
• Special callings from one prophet or another, such as Spencer W. Kimball. Example: Church of Christ in Zion.
• There should be no leader for the people, but that every person is expected to become a prophet themselves, until such time as Christ comes down personally to set things in order. Example:  http://www.eagle-net.org/livingscripture/scripture/witness.html
• The LDS church has apostatized and the fundamentalists haven't done all that much better.
