Since the above disclaimer does not seem to satify many readers of this story, I'll explain a little more. Dislcaimers (and a yellow background) are put on the story found at /parable/echo/ to let the audience know that it is fiction, and to distinguish it from the rest of the site which at least nominally approximates truth as the compiler of the site currently understands it. While this story is based loosely on fact, the author wanted to tell the stories of several people and events without worrying about getting all the details just so, and crippling the story with excessive historicity. Some elements of the story are true, some elements are pure fiction, other elements, such as gold plates and 3 nephites, are Mormon mythology, and some elements are there simply because the author wanted to make some point or other, and it is easier to entertain some ideas in a story than if one came right out and said something in the open. |
