The parable of the robin and the worm:

One day a worm was lounging in the garden underneath a potato leaf. A Robin came by who had just filled up on a worm somewhere else, so it wasn't particularly hungry and took time to talk with the worm. The Robin told the worm of marvelous experiences, flying high over the trees, darting among the branches, avoiding hawks, and what it feels like to fly with the sun.

The worm told of the safety and security of the earth, and of the comfort of moving deliberately so that you always knew where you were, and what your place in the world is. He told of avoiding hungry Robins, and how to burrow into the ground to escape the hazards of the hot sun.

The robin went away shaking his head and muttering about how unbearable it must be to be so earthbound. As the worm returned to the safety of his burrow, he wondered how anyone could choose to live such a nebulous existence.

Both the Robin and the worm totally missed seeing what they share in common: a desire to eat, and avoid being eaten; A need to protect oneself against the hazards of the weather. A need to care for the children.

So it is with LDS and fundamentalist Mormons. The Fundamentalists have an intensely physical hands on type of theology, you learn about gospel living and revelation by doing it. The LDS have an esoteric, ethereal can't touch it theology, you only talk about the revelations of dead prophets. Typically when we talk, we talk right past each other, and it never even crosses a Mormons mind that the Fundamentalist might really know what dirt is.
